Well well… what do I say to you this morning?

That was the question I woke up with..

Because basically, I had headache yesterday before sleeping and I actually promised myself to sleep today out..

At least, I know that’s a lie because I definitely have to write to you..

And writing to you also means I have to teach you something very important in sales..

And while thinking about that..

I remember something that happened some days ago…

I am this person that really love peppersoup..

I can marry a lady that cooks good and spicy peppersoup without thinking twice… (kindly apply for marriage if you cook good peppersoup)

So there’s this lady that makes peppersoup for me and she gets it delivered to me at a token..

So on Saturday (a week ago)..

I ordered for peppersoup again to be delivered on Sunday.. 

Normally, I get the peppersoup and my bikeman will go pick it up for me..

And the bikeman will get me a Fearless Energy drink..

And this lady knows all these well because she sometimes buy the Fearless Energy drink for me..

So as usual, I told her..

Hey name (keeping that)..

I want peppersoup tomorrow..

And you will get me a Fearless Energy drink too..

I will come take it myself this time..

So how much is it now that I know everything is expensive?

Her reply was kinda casual..

It was later that I thought about it, I now realized what happened which I think I should share with you.. 

This is her reply. .

Why take Fearless Energy again?

Too much of Fearless Energy is not too good though..

Why not take Zobo instead? It has no sugar and it will be so chilled..

And the peppersoup price is N1,700..

Each bottle of Zobo is N150.. You can take two to enjoy it better..

And on the spot… I told her to add the 2 bottles of Zobo to my own..

And I also talked to my Friend to buy the same thing..

That means double money for her..

So what did she do there?

Can you guess?

Let me tell you..

She just did cross-selling on me dia.. even without me realizing it until later..

And cross-selling simply means selling what compliments your main product..

An example is selling socks with shoes..

Good..

Let me teach you three things she took into account while cross-selling me…

You can also do these three things to make more money by cross-selling..

1. Timing: She was very patient enough to know when to introduce the Zobo to me..

She didn’t introduce the Zobo before I bought the main product..

She introduced the zobo when I talked about Fearless energy…

You get?

2. Profiling: I later asked her if she does this to everybody..

I mean if she introduces zobo to everybody that asks of peppersoup..

She said no.. She only introduce it to customers that has been buying from her..

Customers that trust her already because a lot of people don’t trust zobo making process..

And I reasoned with that.. 

You don’t want to scare a new customer away with cross-selling immediately..

Sounds kinda scary sometimes even though it works..

So try and profile your customers to get the best results in cross-selling…

3. Customer Experience: I trust this lady well and I have had good experience with her..

Assuming it’s another person that made such suggestion to me..

I may decide not to buy it because of the experience and trust..

She is nice, she checks up on me regularly (even when I am at home that I can’t buy from her).. and she’s a good cook .

So you will want to give the best customer relationship first before asking for a cross-sell..
