Nigeria should be called one of the eight wonders of the world. 

 

Things are really different here.

 

People are egoistic in Nigeria. 

 

Nigerians will do anything to protect their ego.

 

I remember sometime back when my mother was telling me about NYSC.

 

I told her I will differ NYSC.

 

She said no o. 

 

Laye laye (Never ever), You can’t do that

 

She wants to see her son in that NYSC uniform o.

 

She wants to prove to those naysayers that her son finished school and even went for NYSC. 

 

And even though this was funny and it sounded like a huge concern.

 

It was ego speaking through her.

 

She wanted to prove naysayers wrong so she can massage her ego.

 

And for all I know, it’s not only my mother. 

 

There’s every tendency your mum too is like that.

 

Or maybe your dad.

 

Or even both of them

 

And don’t get me wrong…

 

Ego is sweet and it’s something to protect.

 

But the way Nigerians ride on this ego thingy is crazy.

 

Here’s another scenario:

 

Do you know people go to bank and Aboki to buy mint money and they pay a whopping 30% of the money as charges?

 

You don’t know?

 

Lmao.

 

Nigerians buy mint money so they can spend it at parties.

 

Ha.

 

And they aren’t doing it for anything…

 

They are doing it to massage their ego.

 

So the singer can possibly call their name while singing…

 

Or so the Hypeman can hype them to oblivion 

 

Or maybe girls should flock around them

 

Or maybe iya Shakira should see that I have more money than her.

 

Or maybe just anything. 

 

But come to think about it.

 

What emotions are you supposed to always aim for when selling to a country that buys mint money with huge percentage charges?

 

You say Ego?

 

Exactly. 

 

Ego.

 

Massage Nigerians ego.

 

Rub their ego.

 

Let their head swell.

 

Tell them they will be able to prove their naysayers wrong.

 

Tell them they will buy that car to prove their neighbour wrong.

 

Tell them their uncle that didn’t give them money will come to beg them.

 

Heck, tell them their ex-girlfriend will see them and lobby around them again.

 

Ego.

 

Massage their ego.
