I was almost scammed

If I remember this incident, I always smile.

Infact, this incident reinforced my belief in copywriting.

It made me believe there’s nothing psychology cannot do.

You see…

I almost kept myself in a trap.

Or best bet, let’s say I was almost scammed because damn

I would have been crying by now.

And it wasn’t my fault.

It was a friend of mine that wanted to help me when I had light issues sometime back.

Our light got spoilt and my generator kept acting up.

So I was looking for alternatives.

And I heard the best alternative was solar power.

But when I heard the price, I drew back.

Because why will I use 600k to power a rented apartment?

Call me a poor boy or the one with the poor mindset.

I don’t care.

I just feel it’s not right especially as a student.

I will rather get a generator of around 100k and invest the rest.

And like I said earlier, I assumed it doesn’t make sense and I wanted to get a new generator at that time.

But one of my friends sent me something to check out on WhatsApp.

I clicked on the link and I was dumbstruck.

Infact, I called him immediately to thank him.

But that apart, I hope you saw the first rule of persuasion that was played on me there?

You didn’t see it?

Referral dammit.

My friend sent something to me and he doesn’t have to talk much for me to trust the thing.

And that’s why people will tell you to always make sure your customers are happy.

They will refer more people to you without stress.

But that’s a little digression BTW.

What my friend sent was a link to a website where they sell solar panels.

But they allow instalment payments.

If I could remember vividly.

I think we will pay 35k for installation at first.

Then we continue paying 8k monthly for 48 months.

And that’s exactly where it got very interesting.

I was so happy because how much is 8k monthly?

And not until my flatmate called my attention to the number of months…

I believed it was a fair deal.

To me 48 months is nothing and when he told me it’s 4 years.

I shouted God forbid.

Like brooooo.

I knew 48 months is 4 years but when it was presented as 48 months.

It looked like a small time frame.

And when I realized they played another psychological scam on me.

I knew I must be serious with this copywriting thing.

And you see, one thing I have not been able to explain in persuasion is…

“Why would anybody think half a million is bigger than 500k?”

And why did I think 48 months is shorter than 4 years?

Truth be told, I have been finding a subtle explanation to this for months…

And by chance, all answers elude me.

But the only thing I know is…

There are some words in persuasion that works like magic.

You won’t ever suspect them but when you put them in sentences and your copy…

They work and subtly push people into buying trance.

And if anybody gets into a buying trance either from your email or your sales copy.

They are hooked for that particular period.

Just like I was hooked on getting the solar panel on instalment payment.

And this is exactly one of the things I will be explaining in the email marketing live class.

Moreso, if you notice another psychological trait they used is that…

They made the payment so easy for anybody.

They broke the payment down into bits.

They made the money seem like a very stupid amount of money for the solar power set.

They made you perceive the value higher than the price.

And this is another no brainer.

People want to be sold too and they don’t want to buy.

So you seriously need to make this sales process very easy for them.

  • You need to make it easy for them to make decisions.
  • You need to make it easy for them to make payments.
  • You need to make the product delivery easy for them.
This is what people want

Nobody has time for stress these days.

And that’s why I made the payment for my courses very easy and cheap.

Just like this: Email marketing live class FAQ page.

Even though I made some harder on purpose because I want to filter out people.
But the main point is…

Make things easy for people and they will embrace you better than your competitors.

Kapish?

Good.

Have a nice weekend ahead,

Dolapo Hamzat.
